02-05 ... Postings

Hello everyone ....

Postings this week will be a bit screwed up ... !!

Tomorrow (Monday) will be the regular 20 to HE and 5 to NP ....

Then, we are off for a few days to a casino past Quebec City ... (near La Malbaie) on the north shore of the St. Lawrence .... It's part of a very well known 'manoir' where the 'rich and famous' used to hang out in the 30's 40's ... and was renovated into a very 'chic' hotel ....

We will be hooking up with a brother in law and his wife for a few days ... We have reserved 3 nights and depending how broke we are ... I should be back here on Thursday .... late in the day ...

I'll have my laptop but will not have the time to post !!

So, Tuesday to Thursday are out .. and Friday is 'iffy' ....

I have to recommend a program that I bought several months ago ... (about 50$, I think) that makes a 'mirror' copy of your computer in case of a crash .... (Look up Acronis.com)

You know what's coming .... Yeah, I crashed overnight Saturday to Sunday ..... !!!

When I opened my computer this morning, there was a blue screen with a message that I must re-install Windows .... and to check for a virus .... To me, that means formatting and losing everything !!!

There was also a message from Acronis telling me to click on F11 to recover my computer .... I knew that I had a recent back up .... but I had never actually used it to recover files .... I was relying on their literature .... This option was a hell of a lot better than the other one. I clicked on it and right away it asked what I wanted to recover ... 'Computer' was my option .... and, eureka !!! it began working .... This was at 6:15 this morning .... and the message said 5 hours to finish the job .... We were out most of the day and when we got back .... everything was back exactly as they were last Sunday...!

Windows was there ... all programs were up and running and only one week of data was lost .... plus a new program I had installed during the week. I do a weekly backup instead of continuous.

I mentionned that Friday's postings are 'iffy' .... another reason is that I had 4 days of postings ready to go that were lost because of the missing week in the backup .... I try to keep 5-6 days ready to go and there were 4 that I prepared during the week .... All that was left is tomorrow. I didn't lose the data for the others, but it's like starting over. .... and it takes a few hours to prepare one day for the three groups ....

So, Friday will probably be a few videos for HE and the regular pictures for Nature_Pictures ...

There will be numerous times from now until September when postings will be interrupted .... a long one coming up at the beginning of June (about 2 weeks) when we will be exploring Canada from the comfort of a train .... Montreal-Toronto-Vancouver ... Dates will be posted.

Don't forget to backup your computer .. !!!
